Punk Rocker - 2013 - The Vampire Junkies Featuring Texas Terri CD Review By Peter Don't Care

'Punk Rocker'

2013

Vampire Junkies Featuring Texas Terri - CD

Review by Peter Don't Care

"...Really appreciate this EP arriving as I'm a massive fan of anything Miss Texas Terri's and her infamous female Iggy Pop drawl routine puts her name too. Which is a punk rock pleasure to witness both on record or especially live..."

"...With My Machines; offers a scuzzy guitar riff you recall from god knows where, but fits her vocal style completely..."

"...Drum rolls and guitar riffs signals 'Rocket Red' which could quite possibly be written about Miss Terri's big red lips, you just wanna kiss..."

and

'Denmark St' has an almost Heartbreakers swagger as it celebrates being dumped in such hallowed surroundings complete with cool backing vocals and a Thunders solo you could die for..."

Vampire Junkies Featuring Texas Terri - CD

Review by Chuck Foster

"...Want a glam-trashed, punk-trashed, sleaze rock throwback? I'm talkin' Iggy & The Stooges, Damned, Stiv Bators, New York Dolls, and Ramones, to namedrop a couple of VJ influences..."

"...These 'Junkies hail from London...but when they decided to grab Austin's Terri for vocal duties, they created a whole new kind of monster. Hints of that Tex & The Horseheads' Texacala Jones California whiskey-soaked attitude can be found in her singing, but so can the tones of Joan Jett and Wendy.O Williams..."

"...This is just a fast, five-song explosion of electric mayhem, but that's probably a good thing - any more and my head would explode!.."

Review by Cristina Massei

"...The result is a concentrate of old school, simple, dirty, mosh-inducing punk, catchy like the Ramones, easy like Social Distortion, crudely sexy like Iggy Pop, with a nostalgic taste of early Hanoi Rocks thrown in on that ‘Denmark Street’ which – as you might have guessed – is already a favourite of ours..."

Vampire Junkies Featuring Texas Terri - CD

Review by Michael Johnson

"...There are no frills and fancies in the sound here. It's a raw but impeccably tight guitar-bass-drums kickabout, with Terri's vocal - sometimes a sardonic drawl, sometimes a blues-diva rasp - ripping it up over the top..."

"...The classic rock 'n' roll break-up song 'Denmark Street' immortalises what is probably now the last remaining rock 'n' roll thoroughfare in London W1, but it's on 'With My Machines' that the band take Iggy Pop by the scruff of his neck and give him a big sloppy kiss...."

Vampire Junkies Featuring Texas Terri - CD

Review by Dom Daley

"...'With My Machines' is scuzzy, dirty big jack boot bass drum and jerking guitar riff swaggering towards a chorus that's bursting with attitude, and it's always a pleasure to hear Texas Terri strutting her stuff over the airways..."

"...This band plays hard and aggressive and aren't about to compromise. It's a simple formula that has graced stereos for decades. Electric guitar, bass, drums and voice all used to great effect and articulate some stonking, primal, good time, dirty rock and roll. It's always a pleasure..."

Review by Phil Allely

"...Vampire Junkies take on punk-rock works so well that you actually want there to be more tracks to listen to here. This five-track CD flies past far too quick in our opinion...Punk may not be to everyone’s taste, but sometimes you need a little bit of a kick and punch in your rock and here in one shiny package it is..."

"...Vampire Junkies (featuring Texas Terri) is a well produced CD, the songs are wonderfully original and punchy too. the sleeve notes (designed by acclaimed artist Sophie Lo) enhance proceedings also..."

Vampire Junkies Featuring Texas Terri - CD

Review by Dave (OMD)

"...Drums roll, strings cut through, we move on with sharded eloquence - into what I deem to be the best of the lot. (Rocket Red) The first verse opens with more lubricity, more relaxation in the rhythm and so the triumph factor moves up several notches...I am finding a greater texture to this one and more layers within the woven fabric of noise as well as a more DIY infected end result..."

"...I am gonna keep a close eye on this lot though and in truth this is worth a punt. If the band are ever up this neck of the woods I'll be there and I am expecting a real raucous tear up with many new songs exploring new pathways of dinnage...."

Vampire Junkies Featuring Texas Terri - CD

Review by Dom Daley
"...'Denmark Street' is the outstanding track on offer here on an EP of high quality. A great melody and arrangement and a middle eight that has some thunderous drumming and bass that is raw, emotional and full of passion whilst Texas Terri narrates over the top before a blistering lead solo kicks in. What a top tune!..."

"...Five songs isn't nearly enough and I am left wanting more which can only be a good thing. From the heart of old school punk/garage rock there is a line-up here that has the chops to really kick out the jams, and with a song as strong as 'Denmark Street' in the arsenal it's a band I'd like to hear more of please..."

Vampire Junkies Featuring Texas Terri - CD

Review by Mainy

"...In gang parlance the guitars are screaming we've got your back. The drums are pounding out a war cry. There's only five tracks, but that's plenty to get your teeth into. It's got the blood of the Stooges and the New York Dolls painted over its scraped knuckles. You would swear that it had crawled from the gutter of the Bowery after washing up there when it was chased out of the Motor City..."
