The Machines and The Ghosts of Lovers will be the inaugural releases on the Angels in Exile Record Label, and together with the Various Artists Compilation CD (Southend Punk Rock History 1976 - 1986), they will constitute the initial trilogy of CDs issued by the Label.

The Machines
The Machines are a classic UK Punk, Rock 'n' Roll band formed by Nick Paul in 1977 in the amphetamine rush of Punk, split in '78 and then regenerated in 2006. The band all grew up listening to Iggy & The Stooges + The New York Dolls and find this aesthetic still informs their sound. The band released the incendiary 'True Life' EP in 1978 on Wax Records and appeared in the Alternative Chart as published in Sounds, after True Life received a favourable reaction after being played on the John Peel show. The EP was cited as one of the ‘100 Most Collectable Punk Records’ in Record Collector Issue 323, May 2006. Since the bands regeneration in 2006, with Nick Paul on Guitar on Vocals, Stephen 'Tash' Reddihough on Bass and Steve Pegrum (aka Steve Machine) on Drums, The Machines have played all over the country, and together with Engineer Barry Gardner recorded 10 new songs, all of which are included on their Angels in Exile release. Bubblegum Slut fanzine perhaps described the band best, as "Classic punk, served New York Style."

The Ghosts of Lovers
The Ghosts of Lovers are a cult UK Glam-Punk Rock 'n' Roll band, formed by Steve Pegrum and Stuart Emmerton. Initially based around the inspiration provided by the bands heroes Johnny Thunders, Lords of The New Church & Hanoi Rocks, the Ghosts strove to make their own unique imprint. After some line up changes, the 'classic' Ghosts of Lovers consisting of Kevin MacDonald on Vocals, Guy Bourseau on Lead Guitar, Steve Perry on Rhythm Guitar, Kevin Sargeant on Bass and Steve Pegrum on drums started recording their growing catalogue of songs, the studio recordings of which are all to be found for the first time on this CD. As an interview during the period for London based fanzine Submerge revealed, their aesthetic vision was detailed: "The chimera of eclectic sources which influence us are the spirit of Altamont where Rock and Roll met dark forces beyond its control, black leather, chain-smoking, courting crucifixion, crushed velvet, Berlin, Iggy Pop, David Bowie, Herman Hesse, Manhattan, Christiane F, and The New York Dolls".
